Cruz struggles with her personal feelings for Aaliyah and the violence she’s been complicit in. Joe and the team position nearby while political pressure builds at home. Eventually Cruz delivers: she kills Amrohi (Aaliyah’s father), fulfilling her mission.
Season 2 – Josie, Cartels & Consequence
- Following Season 1’s fallout, the CIA Lioness program shifts focus to threats closer to home: a high-ranking congresswoman is kidnapped by the Los Tigres cartel. Simultaneously, evidence emerges that Chinese intelligence is using the cartel network to threaten U.S. interests. - Joe recruits her niece, Captain Josephina "Josie" Carrillo—experienced helicopter pilot and combat soldier—to infiltrate the cartel via her family connections. Cruz returns in a support (and mentorship) capacity. Trust issues surface: Josie’s hidden fluency in Spanish and family ties complicate her reliability. - The plot escalates with discovery of human trafficking of children; Joe is gravely injured in a border mission; the cartel storyline and mission threads collide. Meanwhile, the political machinery in D.C. pressures the mission, showing growing conflict between mission operatives and government oversight. - In the final episodes, operation “Sky Hawk” strikes a convoy of nuclear scientists headed toward Iran via Turkey. Josie’s helicopter is shot down; her team—Cruz included—faces overwhelming odds until close air support arrives. Perhaps more critically, Pablo Carrillo (Josie’s father) is forced to kill his own brother Alvaro to solidify CIA control over Los Tigres, installing Pablo as a sort of agency-aligned cartel boss. The team survives (mostly), but the personal toll runs deep.
Season 3 – Kidnapping, Betrayal & The Big Reveal
- Season 3 opens dramatically: Joe McNamara is abducted on U.S. soil (Virginia), pulling the narrative into a past/present split as the CIA scrambles to find who ordered her taken. Suspicions rotate between Russia, Iran, other foreign adversaries, and even internal moles. - Various red herrings are explored—Russia’s involvement, leaks to the agency from within, operatives like Ukraine being framed. Meanwhile, the CIA continues uncovering a vast plot involving foreign asset networks inside U.S. borders. - Joe is under foreign control for multiple episodes, flown out of the country, then slipped back quietly to U.S. soil. Her rescue happens during a traffic stop, not a planned extraction. - In the finale, Episode 8 “The Unravelling,” the true mastermind behind Joe’s kidnapping is revealed: Aaliyah Amrohi—Cruz’s Season 1 target and daughter of the man Cruz killed. Aaliyah has been quietly financing the global black-market operation targeting Joe, using revenge as bait for all Lioness operatives who would come for her. Meanwhile, Joe returns home to find her house empty: her husband Neal has taken their children—and posted the house for sale.
Where Things Stand Before Season 4
- Joe is physically safe, but her personal life may be irreparably damaged. - Aaliyah Amrohi has emerged as an enemy with deep reach and personal motive. - The ripple effects of the Lioness missions—betrayal, emotional trauma, political fallout—are front and center. - Major powers and internal agency politics continue to press as Joe’s program is under scrutiny and threat from both inside and outside the U.S.
