Here’s how VisionQuest starts off and where it ends up by the end of Episode 2 (“Theseus”):
What happens at the end of VisionQuest (Episodes 1–2):
-
After going into hiding, Vision (White Vision) is exposed when Ultron leaks his location to Paladin, a bounty hunter working for an unknown client. Paladin’s mercenaries attack Vision at a Scottish pub, resulting in the death of Fiona and forcing Vision to flee.
-
Paladin broadcasts that “Thomas Shepherd”—a boy who seems to share memories with Tommy Maximoff—is Vision’s son. Vision is skeptical, initially insisting the child isn’t his, believing his past with Wanda is gone.
-
Vision confronts the choice to rescue Thomas, even if he doesn’t believe he’s truly his. He goes to Saint Mabyn’s psychiatric facility, where Paladin traps him using a combination of an EMP cage and adamantium rounds that penetrate Vision’s normally invulnerable defenses.
-
During this attack, Vision’s support AI, J.A.R.V.I.S., sacrifices himself: he deletes his own code and redirects his processing power to help stabilize Vision’s failing systems. It seems to be a permanent death for this Stark AI.
-
In the final moments, though physically damaged and power-drained, Vision is rescued by Thomas, who hotwires a car, loads him inside, and escapes just as Paladin’s forces close in. Vision is still reeling from the loss and from having to face decisions about identity and responsibility.
Key unresolved questions at this point:
- Exactly who hired Paladin and why Vision is being hunted. - Whether Thomas Shepherd really is Tommy Maximoff in soul, memory, or spirit, or something else entirely. - What Ultron’s true role will be now that he is free inside Vision’s mind, able to manipulate and influence things in both Vision’s mental realm and the real world.
