Rocky is an alien engineer from the star system 40 Eridani. He is important because he becomes Ryland Grace's key ally in the mission to save both their worlds from the Astrophage threat. Rocky and Grace communicate through science and problem-solving, collaborating to breed Astrophage-resistant taumoeba. Their partnership is crucial for developing a solution to stop the Astrophage from draining their suns, and ultimately, Grace sacrifices his chance to return to Earth so Rocky can save his homeworld.
