Plot Recap
Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang run the Time Photo Studio. Cheng Xiaoshi has the ability to enter photographs—reliving the moment the photo was taken by inhabiting the photographer—while Lu Guang can observe the events in the photo and surrounding timeline for up to 12 hours after it was captured. They take on commissions from clients to solve mysteries or correct regrets from the past, under one strict rule: they must never alter what happened in the past.
Over the course of Season 1, cases grow from small emotional or relational remediations—helping someone find a recipe, reconcile old friendships, or explore a tragedy like an impending earthquake—to darker, more complex mysteries involving crime, disappearance, and loss.
The tension escalates as Cheng Xiaoshi’s strong sense of justice causes him to break the rules, setting off unforeseen ripple effects. Meanwhile, there are greater forces at play: powerful entities able to possess bodies, twin antagonists with ties to clients and the studio, and Cheng Xiaoshi’s own past, including the mystery around his parents’ disappearance, all begin to interweave.
To fill in backstory, the Bridon Arc (a prequel) reveals Cheng Xiaoshi once died. His and Lu Guang’s efforts to save him lead them to Bridon, where they meet new characters (Xia Fei, Vein, Liu Xiao) and uncover deeper secrets like the Bahati fire.
By the end of Season 2, a major twist occurs: Qiao Ling inherits a new power due to being possessed, and Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang discover the true depth and danger of their powers’ repercussions.
