Frieren’s view on mortality evolves significantly throughout the story. Initially, as an elf with a much longer lifespan than humans, she perceives human life and death with a certain detachment and difficulty fully grasping their brevity and emotional weight. However, after the heroes defeat the Demon King and return to solitude, Frieren gradually confronts the reality of human mortality as she witnesses the passing of her old friends and the generations that follow. This prompts her to reflect deeply on the nature of life and death, leading her to take on a new apprentice and commit to fulfilling her friends’ dying wishes. Through this journey, Frieren’s understanding matures from distant observation to a more personal and empathetic acceptance of mortality, seeking peace with the transient nature of human life.
