What happens at the end of Brothers?

At the series’ climax, Woody finally obtains the DNA test result that could reveal whether he and Matthew are biological brothers. Rather than opening it, Woody and Matthew are guided by Ma Mac—Holland Taylor’s character—who’s had enough of the mystery defining their friendship. She delivers a monologue about how their lives have already intertwined for decades—through shared support, rivalry, and everything in between—suggesting that a biological link doesn’t change what they truly are.

With that, Matthew and Woody walk outside to a bonfire at Matthew’s ranch in Austin, and throw the sealed DNA envelope into the flames. The test is destroyed without ever being opened.
