You should start with Season 1, Episode 1 of The East Palace. Here's why it’s the best entry point, and when — if ever — you might consider skipping ahead or starting a later arc.
Why Episode 1 is the ideal launch
-
It sets up the premise: introduces Gu-cheon (the ghost-walker/slayer), Saeng-gang (who hears the dead), and the King’s secret summons — you’ll know who they are and what’s at stake.
-
It establishes the tone and mystery — the palace’s curse, supernatural rules, and court intrigue. Watching the first episode primes you for the story’s worldbuilding.
-
It builds character dynamics: the tension between Gu-cheon and Saeng-gang, their different relationships to the supernatural, and how they’ll clash or cooperate going forward.
-
The show is only 8 episodes total, each dropping the same day (July 17, 2026); there is no long first arc you can skip to without losing key foundations.
When a “jump” might make sense — and why it’s risky
-
If you hate slow intros or atmospheric build-ups, you might be tempted to jump to episode 3 or 4, where the supernatural mystery deepens and more action may appear. But you’ll risk missing important character setup and the way mysteries are layered.
-
If you’re watching with spoilers or summaries already known, you might fast-forward after episode 1 — but even then, you’ll want to absorb the core worldrules (ghosts, curses, what the East Palace is) to make later reveals land properly.
Recommendation
Start with Episode 1. It’s the foundation. Give it at least two episodes — if by then it’s still not grabbing you, test shifting to Episode 3 to see if pace or stakes pick up. But skipping too much from the beginning might leave later arcs confusing.
Let me know if you want a breakdown of what to expect in each of the first few episodes — that might help you decide how far ahead you feel comfortable skipping.
