Start with Season 1, Episode 1 (“Pilot”) and watch chronologically—that’s where the setup begins and sets the tone.
Why that order matters:
- Season 1 introduces the premise: Ted Lasso, a U.S. college football coach, is hired to lead the English soccer club AFC Richmond despite knowing nothing about the sport. It introduces major characters like Rebecca Welton (the owner) who’s secretly hired him to tank the club, Ted’s assistant Coach Beard, and key players. - Watching episodes in sequence lets you follow character arcs, especially how Ted’s optimism clashes with cynicism and how relationships change—Roy & Jamie, Rebecca & her ex, Ted dealing with his family. - It builds up important plot landmarks: Richmond’s matches, promotion/relegation, and shifting dynamics like Nate’s rise and Ted’s mental health journey. Skipping ahead spoils those reveals.
Where that leaves you now:
There are 4 seasons so far (44 episodes total as of fall 2026). Season 4 starts a few years after Ted leaves Richmond and shifts focus somewhat, with Ted taking up coaching a second-division women’s team.
If you’ve already seen Season 1, it’s best to continue through Seasons 2 and 3 before jumping to Season 4.
