Plot Overview (Season 1: Slow Horses)
- River Cartwright’s Downfall — After a training exercise goes horribly wrong, River is demoted and sent to Slough House. 2. Voice of Albion & a Kidnapping — Journalist Robert Hobden is surveilled due to his connections with far-right figures. Meanwhile, British‐Pakistani student Hassan Ahmed is abducted by a white nationalist group called Sons of Albion, who plan to livestream his beheading. River sees a chance for redemption. 3. A Deeper Conspiracy Unfolds — MI5’s Deputy Director General Diana Taverner is revealed to be involved in orchestrating the kidnapping as a false-flag operation, aiming to manipulate public opinion and political stakes. 4. Personal Cost & Betrayal — Sid Baker is shot and hospitalized, Jed Moody (an undercover officer) dies after a confrontation, and loyalties shift amid suspicions and betrayals. 5. Climactic Rescue & Fallout — River and the team race to stop further violence, expose the truth, and save Hassan. Taverner’s role is exposed. Despite their success, Slough House gets little credit; the “slow horses” retreat back to their marginal status, bonded but uncelebrated.
