Ryland Grace is a science teacher who wakes up aboard a spaceship called the Hail Mary, light years from Earth, with no memory of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he realizes he is on a critical mission to solve the mystery of a substance called Astrophage that is causing the sun to die out, threatening all life on Earth. His amnesia serves as a narrative device to gradually reveal his identity and the high-stakes mission he must complete to save humanity.
