Here’s a full recap of how Practical Magic 2 ends:
Ending Summary
-
The Owens curse, an ancient family curse making love deadly to the loves of Owens women, is still active. Sally’s husband Gary has died, proving the curse never truly ended. Sally has tried to protect her daughters Kylie and Antonia by suppressing magic and hiding their heritage.
-
Kylie falls in love with Gideon, but the curse strikes again when Gideon is hit by a car and falls into a coma. Kylie decides to track down a solution, taking Jet’s Book of the Raven, to understand how to break the curse. Sally and Gillian follow her to England as they piece together family history and magical lore.
-
They confront Tom Lockland, a descendant from a branch of the Owens family cut off from magic. He’s been manipulating things and trying to steal Kylie’s magical powers, using rituals and her trust. In a showdown at Lockland Manor, Sally, Gillian, and Kylie combine their powers to defeat Tom definitively.
-
After the fight, the sealed pages of the Book of the Raven finally open, revealing that the only way to break the Owens curse permanently is for an Owens witch to willingly sacrifice her own life. Aunt Frances (“Franny”) volunteers, walks into a river, and dies, ending the centuries-old curse placed by Maria Owens. With her sacrifice, Gideon wakes from his coma.
-
One year later, the Owens family has begun to heal and rejoice. Kylie and Gideon get married, free from fear of the curse. Sally allows herself to pursue love again with Ian. Antonia begins embracing magic openly. The Owens women have lost Jet and Frances, but their legacy lives on. In a closing nod to tradition, the family gathers up on the rooftop with umbrellas, a callback to the original film, celebrating magic, love, and family heritage finally without fear.
