Here’s a full plot recap of Other Mommy (2026), including its ending and post-credit twist:
Plot
Bela, an 8-year-old girl, begins seeing a mysterious and sinister entity in her home that looks exactly like her mother, Ursula. The entity, whom Bela calls “Other Mommy,” appears at first to comfort Bela when so much in the household feels unstable—her parents are distant, there’s tension in their marriage, and Bela feels unseen. But this comforting figure soon reveals darker motives: it wants Bela to let it “enter her heart,” essentially to take over her life and identity.
Ursula, Bela’s mother, is married to Jeff (often called “Daddo” by Bela), and they’re approaching their wedding anniversary. Bela senses something secret is being kept from her. Ursula is revealed to have been previously married to another man; the child she was carrying was not Jeff’s biologically. Ursula never wanted to be a mother, and Jeff agreed to raise Bela anyway. These hidden truths fuel Bela’s sense of isolation and make her vulnerable to Other Mommy’s manipulations.
As the haunting intensifies, the entity becomes more aggressive. It can take the appearances of others—not just Ursula—suggesting it's skilled at deception and nightmares made manifest. Bela and her parents try to get help, even hiring ghost hunters, but the entity kills or frightens them off, escalating its threats directly.
Ending & Resolution
After confronting her parents and learning the truth about her origins and Ursula’s relationship to her biological father, Bela is emotionally crushed but finds a way to fight back. She invites Other Mommy to appear and ask once again to enter her heart—but this time Bela tricks the entity. When it takes Bela’s form and asks for a hug, Bela tears it apart instead of surrendering. She resists possession by recognizing that love doesn’t mean perfection, and that she doesn’t need Other Mommy.
In the aftermath, the family is physically safe and together, but the wounds remain. Ursula is unhappy and distant even after the defeat, indicating that the struggle has started deeper changes in relationships that will take time.
Post-Credit Scene
In a short post-credits scene, Other Mommy returns for one final haunting moment. She looks directly into the camera, raises her finger, and whispers “Shhh.” It’s a chilling reminder that though Bela defeated the entity this time, its existence may still linger.
