Here are the main threats that residents face in FROM’s mysterious middle-America town:
Major Threats in the Township
-
Nocturnal Creatures — Humanoid, supernatural beings who emerge nightly from the forest and tunnels to hunt, torture, and kill anyone caught outside after dark. They can mimic normal humans and use psychological tactics—deception, persuasion, familiarity—before attacking. Their true form involves grotesque claws, luminescent eyes, greyish skin, and jagged teeth.
-
Talismans & Their Limitations — Objects discovered in a cave that repel the Creatures when placed at entrances. While they offer protection, they don't stop other dangers and don’t fully solve the problem of being trapped.
-
The Forest & Tunnels — The surrounding woods hide both Creatures and other mysteries, while the underground tunnel network contains sleeping Creatures and ancient secrets. Both places are high-risk zones.
-
Psychological & Supernatural Threats — Inhabitants suffer from disturbing visions, voices, malevolent visions of entities (like the Kimono Woman or Boy in White), and other supernatural phenomena that destabilize minds and perceptions. Not purely physical threats, but often just as dangerous.
-
Trapped Population & Community Fracture — The residents themselves pose threats: conflicting leadership (Boyd vs. others), rules and social dynamics that compromise safety, and choices people make out of fear or desperation (letting Creatures in by mistake, opening doors when influenced by supernatural forces).
-
Unknown Cosmic Forces / Larger Mystery — Overarching entities or designs beyond the Creatures: deals made in the past, repeated cycles of sacrifice and immortality, along with powerful unseen forces controlling or influencing what happens in the town.
These threats intersect: the Creatures are deadly, but so are the supernatural visions and community breakdowns. The town’s deeper mysteries may be the biggest danger of all.
