How the buildings are turned into a dungeon

1. The Transformation occurs in an instant. At about 2:23 AM Pacific Standard Time on January 3, every structure on Earth with a closed top—houses, buildings, cars, tents, etc.—collapses. Anybody inside or underneath dies instantly. What remains is often just an impression in the ground: the building’s footprint visible as churned earth.

2. Mining and processing of materials Everything that's crushed is collected by the Borant Corporation. All raw materials, both organic and non-organic, are harvested. 99.99999% of the physical matter is then repurposed to build the World Dungeon.

3. Reconstruction as the World Dungeon After materials are harvested and interiors crushed, Earth’s interior becomes part of the new environment. The collected matter is used to form the 18 levels of the World Dungeon. These levels are constructed from the repurposed elements of Earth.

Why it happens

1. Legal basis under Syndicate law Earth failed to file an appeal for mineral and elemental rights within the Precious Elemental Reserves Code’s 50-solar limit after “first contact.” As a result, the planet was seized by the assigned planetary regent, Borant Corporation.

2. Planetary regency & resource reclamation Borant is legally obligated to mine Earth's elemental deposits under the Mined Material Reclamation Act. Despite environmental destruction and massive loss of life, survivors are offered a chance to “reclaim” what was taken by becoming crawlers and completing the World Dungeon.

3. The Dungeon is the reclamation method One of several legal reclamation options was selected—option 3, which mandates building an 18-level World Dungeon. Earth’s planetary rights will only revert back once the 18th level is successfully completed.
